About the Job
Sidwell Friends School, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks a part-time seasonal Assistant Rowing Coach for the Washington, D.C. campus. Leading with Sidwell Friends School (SFS) values, the Assistant Rowing Coach reports to the Head Rowing Coach and Athletics Director and is responsible for assisting with training and oversight of high-school aged student athletes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent Sidwell Friends School and the Rowing Program professionally in all aspects, including during training and competition. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
- Assist in the design and supervision of indoor training and teaching sessions in November, December, January and February.
- Assist in the design and supervision of practices on the water and land during the spring season (March, April, and May).
- Assist the head coach in training and evaluating the rowers and preparing the team for regattas.
- Drive a launch while conducting practice.
- Travel with the team and assist with oversight and instruction of student athletes at regattas on Saturdays throughout the spring.
- Attend and help plan the team’s annual spring training in March.
- Assist with equipment upkeep.
- Abide by SFS and Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Competitive collegiate rowing experience.
- Minimum 1-year competitive youth coaching or high school teaching experience.
- Ability to drive a motorized launch.
- Driver’s license.
- Knowledge of athlete safety and general boathouse safety.
- Ability to communicate well and honestly.
- Willingness to work with student-athletes at all stages of development.
- An appreciation for the fact that many SFS student-athletes balance a variety of activities and obligations beyond their commitment to rowing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, other coaches, parents, and students.
- Available to work mornings and weekends.
- As a condition of employment, the selected candidate will complete and clear a background and fingerprint screening before the first day of work. Upon hire, they will obtain CPR Certification, First Aid training, Boating License, Bus training, USRowing Level 1 certification, and other requirements.
Compensation
- Stipend $2,675.00-$3,852.00. Stipend will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
