Contra Costa Risk Management Department is seeking one (1) Assistant Risk Manager to join our Workers’ Compensation Program Unit. The Assistant Risk Manager Workers’ Compensation incumbent will coordinate and liaison with the County Director of Risk Management on workers’ compensation claims and issues and oversee and direct the department’s self-insured and self-administered Workers’ Compensation and Return to Work Programs.
The Assistant Risk Manager - Workers’ Compensation reports directly to the County Director of Risk Management-Exempt and is responsible for the supervision of Workers’ Compensation Program staff.

The Workers’ Compensation program is a small and dedicated unit within the Risk Management team. Each team member has a unique opportunity to support each other, make an immediate impact on the program, and to share their experience and knowledge with the rest of the team.
We are looking for someone who is:

- Overseeing the self-insured and self-administered Workers’ Compensation Program for the County and special districts
- Supervising and directing the activities of workers’ compensation program staff on the investigation and adjustment of Workers’ Compensation claims
- Overseeing the administration of the County’s Return to Work Program
- Interpreting California Code and laws applicable to Workers’ Compensation benefits, and staying current on recent law and legislation to ensure compliance by the County Workers’ Compensation Program
- Acting as a liaison with county departments, special districts, outside agencies, state and federal agencies
- Developing, reviewing, and modifying procedures for the adjustment of injury cases
- Maintaining statistical information, including amount of open reserves, projections for future costs and claims cost incurred
