About the Job
The Department of Mass Communication, Advertising, and Public Relations at Boston University seeks to hire two tenure-track Assistant Professors. We are seeking outstanding individuals conducting impactful research in advertising, including digital strategy, media strategy, and communication analytics. The positions begin in September of 2025.
Teaching assignments for these positions include, but are not limited to, undergraduate and graduate courses such as Introduction to Advertising, Principles and Practices of Advertising, Media Strategy, New and Traditional Media, and Interactive Marketing, and contributing to the development and delivery of an evolving curriculum in this rapidly changing discipline, while elevating our advertising research profile.

Established in 1947, the College of Communication (COM) at Boston University has three departments: Mass Communication, Advertising and Public Relations; Journalism, and Film and Television, as well as a Division of Emerging Media Studies. COM’s student population exceeds 2,200 in its B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs. COM integrates a strong liberal arts core with a focus on preparing students for careers as communication professionals. The faculty represents a blend of scholars and distinguished practitioners. BU enjoys an international reputation and is a major R1 and AAU institution. The College of Communication is home to interdisciplinary research engaged with both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Required Skills
The successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in advertising, communication, or a related field, as well as an active program of advertising focused research. The ideal candidates will demonstrate the potential to develop a national or international reputation as a scholar and bring both intellectual and experiential diversity to our existing faculty. Duties include teaching two classes each semester, advising students, and serving on various committees to advance the work of the University, College, or Department, while producing significant, high-quality scholarship. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose research and teaching employ theories and rigorous methodologies in the rapidly changing area of media strategy, digital strategy, or new technologies.
