Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. The Health Sciences Department at LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York is seeking highly motivated and innovative candidates to fill an Assistant Professor position, as Program Director of the Veterinary Technician Program.
Primary responsibilities for the Assistant Professor, Program Director of the Veterinary Tech Program will include teaching courses in the Veterinary Technology Program; performing all administrative duties associated with program accreditation such as maintaining documentation required by American Veterinary Medical Association, the accrediting body; prepare the program’s self-study document as needed; prepare and maintain all documents needed for AVMA, IACUC, NYC Department of Health, USDA, and others as needed.
The candidate will prepare class schedules and faculty teaching assignments; review and revise curriculum and program materials as needed; conduct course and overall program evaluation; supervise faculty and staff in the Veterinary Technology Program and assist in the annual performance review for these personnel; hire, supervise, and evaluate full time and adjunct faculty members and college laboratory technicians as needed; support departmental, divisional and college initiatives; provide academic advisement to students; participate in local/state/national affiliate meetings as necessary; keep current in the field of veterinary medicine; and participate in scholarly activity.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree or Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Veterinary Science or a related field and current or eligible for NYS licensure as a Veterinary Technician (LVT) or as a Veterinarian (DVM or VMD). At least three years of work experience in the veterinary field is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years or more experience working with veterinary surgical and anesthesia techniques.
- Classroom teaching experience at the college or university level.
- The ability to adapt to a wide variety of learning styles.
- Experience with curriculum development.
- Experience in student mentorship and guidance.
- Ability to collaborate with others for the good of the institution.
- Experience or the ability to teach a diverse student population which includes underrepresented communities.
- Some level of scholarly engagement and/or participation in professional development.
COMPENSATION
$72,667 - $90,375
