Function/Duties of Position:The Assistant Professor in Social Work at the School of Dentistry is responsible for overseeing the integration of behavioral health care into the SOD programs. This involves the collaboration with faculty and students to incorporate behavioral health support into a patient's clinical care. It involves establishing quality improvement processes for patient support and navigation to improve patient outcomes. The role is responsible for teaching, research and service within the Division of Dental Public Health. This role involves close communication and collaboration with Portland State University social work program, OHSU social workers, other behavioral specialists, various health support organizations and Russell St Dental Clinic.

The duties of this position include:
- Perform assessment, management, and triage of behavioral and social problems in clinic patient population
- Work with health providers to monitor and manage "at risk" and "chronic" patients
- Support provider decision making and builds on provider-patient interventions
- Provide effective triage of patients in need of specialty behavioral health
- Coordinate and work with other team members to ensure the efficient and effective flow of patients through the SOD
- Establish quality improvement processes for patient support and navigation to improve patient outcomes
- Work across SOD and Russell St Dental Clinic to support and improve patient experiences
- Participate in the education of dental students and residents
- Instruct students on work with behavioral health professionals in the patient centered dental home
- Support curriculum associated with social determinants of health and social justice
- Demonstrate psycho-social assessment and management of complex patients to students experientially
- Provides input into the academic teaching and service of the Division of Dental Public Health
- Coordinate and support the social worker internship program with Portland State University if and when suitable
- Provide input into the research within the Division of Dental Public Health; and
- Facilitate and participate in the creation of manuscripts, presentations, posters, newsletter contributions, grant progress reports, blog posts, social media, and other essential cross-project communications
- Master's degree or PhD in Social Work
- Licensed to provide care as a social worker in a health care setting
- Experience in educational settings with curriculum
- Experience in conducting research
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team, and excellent communication skills
- Ability to leverage creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment in the analysis and resolution of administrative problems; and
- Ability to collaborate with the School of Dentistry and external stakeholders
- Understand various health care systems
- Ability to bring a team together; and
- Held a Faculty position
