Job Description:
Southern Utah University seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Nursing. This is a full-time non-tenure-track position. The faculty member will teach in the SUU Department of Nursing (DON) in areas of expertise (potentially in face-to-face or online courses) and will supervise clinicals which may be in Cedar City or St. George. The faculty member will provide service to the DON, College of Health Science (COHS), University, community, and profession and contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the DON. This is a full-time, 9-month position to commence in January 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Participating in the ongoing development, implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of nursing academic programs:
- Participating in program and course revisions.
- Revising assigned courses to reflect program outcomes, AACN essentials, and other professional standards, state board of nursing minimum standards, current evidence and best practice.
- Collaborating with emphasis area coordinators, clinical coordinators, program directors, and the DON Chair and program.
- Identify the types of clinical experiences and sites needed for optimal clinical education of students.
- Teaching graduate and undergraduate nursing courses as assigned.
- Supervising nursing students as assigned.
- Collaborating with clinical agencies in arranging student clinical experiences (e.g. orientation to objectives of clinical experience, course syllabus, clinical schedule, et al) as appropriate.
- Participating in the development of academic policies affecting the admission, progression, graduation and dismissal of students.
- Participating in the evaluation and ongoing enhancement of the curricula.
- Applying evidence from best education practices to curriculum development and to teaching.
2. Serve the College of Nursing, University, community and profession:
- Participating in College of Nursing faculty, standing committees, task force and other meetings.
- Participating in University Assembly and Faculty Senate Committees and ad hoc committees.
- Participating in community and professional activities as appropriate.
- Participating in scholarly projects as appropriate.
3. Contributing to the mission and strategic priorities of the DON, COHS, and Southern Utah University.
4. Collaborating effectively with other faculty and staff members both within the DON and throughout the University and community to develop inter-professional academic, clinical, and research opportunities.
5. Engagement in clinical scholarship or research.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Required:
- Either MSN or doctorate of nursing
RN or APRN license
Two years clinical nursing experience
Preferred:
Doctorate of nursing
Two years college-level teaching experience
