About the PositionThe Kinesiology and Physical Education Program of the Health and Human Development (HHD) Department at Western Washington University is seeking one full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Kinesiology (exercise physiology emphasis) anticipated to begin September 2024. The Department, the College, and the University value teaching and expect each person hired to be an exemplary teacher (including the use of effective strategies such as varied teaching formats, timely feedback, among others as appropriate); to be current in their discipline; to engage students actively in their learning; to maintain high standards regarding course content; and to be available to students through regularly scheduled office hours in keeping with department policy. Those hired are expected to participate in scholarly activity and perform career-related service roles on and off campus. It is expected that the successful candidate be able to carry out the following responsibilities: - Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on a quarter system - Undergraduate advising and supervision of fieldwork - Advising graduate students including thesis preparation and supervision - Supervising graduate internships - Demonstrate independence in scholarly and/or creative activity - Perform career-related service roles on and off campus Required Qualifications + Earned PhD/EdD, or other terminal degree, or ABD at time of application in the field of kinesiology or a related field with an emphasis in exercise physiology. If ABD, all degree requirements must be completed by June 15 of the first year of employment (e.g., for a September 2024 start date, all degree requirements must be completed by June 15, 2025). + Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the university level + Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain independent research or scholarly activity + Evidence of ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology + Evidence of the ability to mentor master's level research/theses + Evidence of the ability to commit to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds and social identities. Salary The starting salary range for assistant professor appointment, tenure-track is generally between $70,000 - $75,000, with placement within the position's salary range commensurate with qualifications and professional experience.
