Assistant Professor of Business- Wilmington College Prison Education Program - Wilmington College
Wilmington, OH
About the Job
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The offices of Academic Affairs at Wilmington College in Wilmington, OH, and the Prison Education Program invite applications for a full-time, long-term faculty/administrative position that serves the Wilmington College Prison Education Program. This position is in Business and will have an annual teaching load of 7 - 8 courses (the load distribution may vary in fall, spring, summer semesters) in Dayton Correctional Institution (women), Warren Correctional Institution (men), and Lebanon Correctional Institution (men), all located in Southwest Ohio. Most courses in these facilities take place in the evenings, Monday-Thursday, with limited daytime hours for teaching available, although this may change in the future. Given the office space constraints in the prisons at this time, the faculty member's main campus home will be located in Wilmington, Ohio. The faculty member is welcome to attend faculty meetings as a regular faculty member and may be asked to serve on faculty or administrative committees or task forces that are related to the Prison Education Program. However, the person in this role will be expected to be part of the Prison Education Program team, contributing to activities such as supervising class time at least 5 hours a week, on two separate days at the prisons; assisting in enrolling students and helping them complete FAFSA forms; advising incarcerated students; assisting fellow faculty in facility entry and computer usage within the prisons; supervising book distribution from main campus to prisons; managing student academic files and reporting regarding student probations or academic appeals; and fulfilling other duties as assigned. The successful candidate must be willing to be an integral part of the team coordinating the entire prison program to ensure its success.
This position begins in late summer 2024. Wilmington College began offering education in Ohio prisons in 1967, before any degree programs were possible, and after 1994, when Pell grant funding was eliminated. Wilmington College is pleased to again offer bachelor's degrees in ODRC prisons. This project is mission-driven and motivated by the College's belief in access to education for all.
