About the Job
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adheres to all safety policies, procedures, and established practices, ensuring compliance among direct reports. Reports unsafe conditions or actions to supervisors or the Manager of Safety and Health.
- Oversees the safety practices of employees by providing regular training, development opportunities, reminders, and, when necessary, disciplinary actions.
- Implements and follows the Supervisor Safety Procedure Manual (SSPM), including safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting, investigations, and employee observations.
- Ensures production staff comply with company policies, OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT guidelines, while maintaining a clean and organized work environment per Sunrock, MSHA, and OSHA standards.
- Plans, evaluates, organizes, and monitors safety management programs, policies, and procedures, ensuring adherence to OSHA, MSHA, FMCSA, and other relevant regulations.
- Designs and conducts job task training and safety programs to meet regulatory requirements.
- Performs facility inspections and recommends improvements to management or the Manager of Safety and Health.
- Collects and manages safety and health data for internal and external reporting, including OSHA 300 Logs and MSHA reports.
- Assists with managing claims related to workers' compensation, auto, and general liability.
- Organizes and promotes internal safety award programs and submits applications for external recognition.
- Participates in legal processes, such as FOIA requests and other proceedings, when needed.
- Distributes essential safety and health information across the chain of command as required.
- Actively contributes to team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Leads by example, sharing knowledge and expertise with others.
- Facilitates informational safety meetings with mid-level management.
- Supports safety initiatives and training sessions at least annually.
- Assists in coordinating the companys annual Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) Driver Rodeo Contest.
- Inspects and maintains first aid kits and AEDs to ensure compliance.
- Attends bi-monthly staff meetings.
- Periodically reviews and updates MSHA binders located at quarry offices.
- Participates in seminars, webinars, and conferences as required by the executive team and Manager of Safety and Health.
- Maintains and organizes online files, including training documents, records, forms, and MSDS, on the companys shared drive or required systems.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical journals, legal documents, and financial reports. Able to address inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.
- Capable of writing articles and speeches in a professional format and delivering presentations to management, public groups, or boards.
- Strong mathematical skills, including probability, statistical analysis, and geometry, with the ability to apply these concepts practically.
- Logical and scientific problem-solving skills, including working with complex formulas, equations, and graphs.
- Technologically proficient in tools such as email, databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics software.
- Skilled in handling multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and delegating effectively.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelors degree (B.A. or B.S.) is preferred, along with a minimum of five years of related experience in the industry or safety management.
- Experience in outdoor manufacturing or construction environments is highly desirable.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may also be considered.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- A valid North Carolina drivers license is required.
- Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
