Reporting to the Assistant Director, Accounting - NA, the scope of this role is to support financial and operational controllership for AIG’s US-domiciled General Insurance legal entities, including treasury and capital activities. The ideal candidate will bring bedrock skills in controlling, analytics, and financial reporting in the P&C insurance industry; the breadth and profile of this role will provide tremendous opportunities to grow those skills and develop within AIG’s Controllership function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execution of quarterly and annual accounting close processes for US-domiciled General Insurance legal , ensuring that transactions are booked in a timely manner and in accordance with US GAAP and US Statutory requirements, and that associated SOX controls are performed and documented.
- Preparation and delivery of accurate 10-Q/10-K financial disclosures for the General Insurance North America segment
- Lead the execution of critical internal control activities central to the quarterly/annual close, including analytical reviews of segment results and balance sheet, review the outcome of key accounting estimates prepared by multiple functions across the organization, including loss contingency and other valuation provisions
- Staff development and mentor small team of direct reports
- Develop and then deploy an advanced knowledge of AIG’s reporting systems to respond quickly to ad hoc requests for analysis from senior management; think critically about how to anticipate future requests and industrialize process to support efficient delivery
- Provide support to the AIG Corporate Controllership during peak periods of external financial reporting, including validation of General Insurance inputs to delivery of quarterly earnings release materials.
- Support delivery of standalone financial statements for multiple regulated insurance subsidiaries
- Support, contribute and/or lead projects and workstreams associated with significant transactions and ad hoc activities, such as acquisitions, re-segmentations, capital transactions, etc.
- Manage efforts to strengthening the control environment and implementing process improvements (e.g. Project Partner), with a particular focus on enhancing our use of technology and development of automated solutions as AIG invests in transforming the Finance function
Job Requirements:
- Qualified CPA preferred
- 3+ years of experience, presenting a Big Four background and a proven track record of progressive finance management roles (controlling, analytics, financial reporting) in the Property & Casualty industry.
- Strong operational controllership and technical accounting experience in a dual-SEC and NAIC statutory reporting environment

- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation development and delivery, with an ability to effectively work across teams

- Demonstrated past success at creating or significantly upgrading the function and instilling a culture of continuous process improvement
