Position Summary:
This hands-on leadership position is responsible for leading, directing, overseeing, assisting, training, and coaching the staff. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will be responsible and be involved with all activities, including course maintenance, grow-in, and construction. Activities would include assisting in budgeting, developing agronomical plans, scheduling, and implementing daily activities such as course setup, daily maintenance, cultural practices, chemical calibration and application, irrigation problem solving and repair, and leading projects and enhancements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leading the team, delegating and assigning assignments, providing guidance, training, coaching, and assisting, and ensuring work is completed as expected and in a timely manner.
- Assisting in planning and scheduling all maintenance activities and staff in performing grounds maintenance processes and procedures.
- Assisting in managing and overseeing chemical/fertilizer applications.
- Inspecting turf conditions, advising the Superintendent, recommending corrective action, and implementing/overseeing corrective action.
- Training staff and ensuring all safety policies and procedures are practiced and turf equipment and tools are safely and efficiently operated, cared for, and properly stored.
- Monitoring and recognizing performance issues, coaching staff, and ensuring performance standards are met.
- Complying with all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
- Communicating and interacting with members, guests, coworkers, management, staff, and others professionally, courteously, and positively representing the Club.
- Fills in for the Superintendent and the technicians when needed.
Qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities):
- Experience and knowledge in golf course maintenance.
- Experience in leading golf course maintenance teams and projects.
- Knowledge of chemical pesticide and fertilizer products and their applications.
- Knowledge of irrigation utilization, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.
- A current pesticide license or the ability to acquire a license.
- A Bachelor’s, associate, or Certificate in turf grass management or related experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Paspalum experience is a plus but not required.
