About the Job
The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible and accountable for assisting in all restaurant activities as necessary. The AGM assists to ensure that all activities are consistent with and supportive of the goals of the restaurant. The AGM helps ensure that all employees are performing their job responsibilities and meeting expectations in all areas of their job descriptions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
TOTAL GUEST SATISFACTION
The AGM consistently provides a quality product and guest service experience that delivers total guest satisfaction. He or She models and creates an environment in which the guest never feels wrong; ensures a positive customer service experience.
The AGM responds positively and quickly to guest concerns. He or She corrects potential problems before they affect the guest. This includes verbal and written communication with guests and staff. He or She provides GM with detailed information regarding the concern/s.
The AGM assists with the hiring of high quality people who demonstrate and ensure consistent guest satisfaction.
The AGM trains, motivates and empowers staff to deliver total guest satisfaction. He or She must assist with evaluating each employee’s ability to maintain high levels of guest satisfaction.
The AGM maintains the bar at the level necessary to meet or exceed the company standards for quality, service and cleanliness.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
The AGM continuously improves the skills, knowledge and morale of all employees. He or She treats the employees with dignity and respect; creates an environment where the entire team does the same. They must uphold the mission statement, vision statement and the company core values. These are provided in the training material.
The AGM effectively utilizes all training programs for new employees. Working directly with the lead trainer to ensure all staff continues their training while employed with the company.
The AGM works along with the GM to evaluate each employee’s performance based on clearly communicated standards and expectations. He or She holds the employees accountable for performance.
The AGM must be knowledgeable of policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair, and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures. He or She must provide the GM with detailed information regarding corrective action. The AGM is not responsible to administer terminations.
EFFECTIVE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT & PRACTICES
The AGM maximizes financial performance and profit, using the Scorecard (P&L Statement) and Labor Tool daily to manage the restaurant's performance.
The AGM will learn create schedules based on forecasted sales that are according to company standard & budget.
The AGM develops and executes the business goals. Achieving results by planning, communicating, delegating and following up.
The AGM assists with local organizations/non-profit groups to help build a positive rapport in their local community.
The AGM ensures business and personnel practices are within the law and consistent with policies and procedures provided in the employee handbook. He or She will enforce all labor laws (federal, state and local)
The AGM serves as a role model and sets a positive example for the entire team in all aspects of business and personnel management.
The AGM maintains a professional restaurant image, including restaurant cleanliness, proper uniforms, and appearance standards.
The AGM follows procedures to maintain the safety and security of all employees, guests and company assets (building, cash, equipment, supplies).
The AGM upholds company food safety, food handling and sanitation requirements, to ensure the health and safety of our guests and employees.
The AGM will adhere to company standards and service levels to increase sales and minimize costs, including beverage, supplies and labor costs. He or She must assist to ensure that all financial (invoices, reporting) and personnel and payroll related administrative duties are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
The AGM must keep upper management promptly and fully informed of all issues and take prompt corrective action where necessary or suggest alternative courses of action.
The AGM must complete his or her job responsibilities and performance objectives in a timely and effective manner and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
The AGM must maintain a favorable working relationship with all company employees and vendors to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity and efficiency/effectiveness.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-High school diploma or equivalent.
-College Degree preferable.
-One year of experience in a leadership role. Two years of experience in a restaurant/bar role is preferred. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
-Good verbal and written communication skills; is capable of communicating effectively with guest and co-works; bi-lingual skills a plus
LICENSES:
-Local Bartender’s (Class D Operator’s) License OR Local Manager’s (Class B Operator’s) License
-State of Wisconsin Food Manager Certificate (ServSafe)
-Must have reliable transportation
ACCESSIBILITY:
-Must have cell phone and another reliable method of communicating with all employees.
-Must be accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unless on vacation approved by owner.
-Maintains an open door policy with entire staff.
POSITION TYPE AND HOURS:
-Able to work a minimum of 45 hours per week; able to work flexible hours necessary to manage and operate the restaurant effectively.
-The Assistant General Manager role is an exempt, 40+ hours per week position.
-Must attend the bi-weekly in store Manager Meeting to review restaurant performance.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Self-discipline, initiative, leadership ability and outgoing.
-Pleasant, polite manners as well as a neat and clean appearance.
-Ability to motivate employees to work as a team to ensure that food and service meet appropriate standards.
-Demonstrates time management and organizational skills.
-Must be able to handle the pressures of simultaneously coordinating a wide range of activities and recommend appropriate solutions to restaurant problems.
-Must possess good communication skills for dealing with diverse staff and customers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
-While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and walk for up to 10 hours at a time, with brief time to sit intermittently. The employee must occasionally lift or move restaurant products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. The employee must also have the stamina to work up to 60 hours per week when necessary.
