Reporting to the Head Football Coach, the Assistant Football Coach uses independent judgment and discretion, instruction, and education to train players on the rules, strategies, and techniques of and ensure that student-athletes understand, comply and abide by the rules and regulations of the NCAA and the University of New Haven.
You are:
- A strong leader with verbal and written communication, and motivational skills
- Able to teach and demonstrate the skills and strategies of the sport in an independent manner
You will:
- Educate athletes on safety rules and regulations to ensure compliance with NCAA and conference guidelines
- Train, encourage and motivate student-athletes. Manage various issues with student athletes in an effective and professional manner
- Instruct and demonstrate proper game techniques, strategies and use of equipment
- Work closely with the Head Football Coach to evaluate the strengths and weakness of student-athletes
- Assist the Head Football Coach in planning and organizing practice sessions
- Remain abreast of any changes in rules, techniques or equipment associated with the applicable sport
- Identify, monitor, and recruit quality student-athletes that will be an asset to the University’s athletic program
- Assist the Head Football Coach in the scouting of opposing teams
- Assist the Strength and Conditioning staff in the supervision of the teams’ strength and conditioning program
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
You need:
- A Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Previous playing and/or coaching experience in the sport preferred
- Extensive knowledge of, and proven ability, to educate students in the sport
- A demonstrated ability to successfully coach at the Division II level
