Assistant Estimator / Assistant Project Manager
Drywall Division
Introduction:
Our client, a 100% union finish contractor, is seeking an Assistant Estimator / APM to join their rapidly growing drywall division. The drywall division offers metal stud framing and drywall services on a variety of commercial projects, working closely with many of New Englands most well-respected General Contractors.
Position Summary:
The Assistant Estimator / APM plays a critical role in the budgeting and cost estimation of commercial drywall projects. In this position, you will assist the senior estimator/project manager in preparing accurate cost estimations and project analysis to support the successful execution of construction projects within the drywall division. The Assistant Estimator / APM will review project plans and specifications, perform quantity take-offs, solicit subcontractor and supplier quotations, and help in compiling comprehensive bid proposals.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for various types of commercial drywall projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, and drawings to understand the scope of work.
- Collaborate with the Senior Estimator/PM to gather necessary information for estimates.
- Perform quantity take-offs and prepare detailed cost breakdowns for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Solicit and review subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Participate in bid preparation and submission processes.
- Assist in preparing bid proposals and change order pricing.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, project walkthroughs, and client meetings as required.
- Assist with project submittals, cost tracking, and data entry
- Conduct administrative duties, such as organizing and maintaining project documents and updating project management software and database.
- Conduct basic duties such as setting up phone calls, meetings, and site visits.
- Stay updated on industry trends, construction techniques, and materials related to metal stud framing and drywall.
- Perform other related duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor Degree (Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management preferred).
- 2-3 years of relevant experience estimating in commercial construction
- 2-3 years of experience in project management preferred
- Familiarity with the industry, particularly drywall and metal stud framing
- Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and develop in the field of construction estimating and project management.
- Strong leadership skills and a commitment to excellence.
