Kay's engineering department is responsible for maintaining the mechanical, electrical & plumbing systems of our properties and is committed to providing exceptional customer service and a comfortable living experience for our residents.
The Assistant Engineer reports to the Regional Engineering Supervisor and is supported by the building engineering staff. This is a roving position throughout our Montgomery County communities.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service and effectively communicate with residents, guests, visitors and staff within company policies and Fair Housing laws.
- Assist building engineers with overseeing service performed by contractors on the mechanical, electrical & plumbing systems.
- Under the supervision of building engineers perform daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections of building systems and central plant equipment as defined in our preventative maintenance program.
- Assist in performing diagnostics, repairs, replacements and installations of items such as:
o Chillers
o Boilers (Hot Water & Steam)
o Pumps
o Cooling Towers
o Heat Exchangers
o Air Compressors
o Controls
o Control Valves
o Motor Starters
o VFDs
o Domestic Water Distribution Piping
o Hot/Chilled Water Distribution Piping
o Exhaust/Supply Fans
o Fan Coil Units
o Split System AC/Heat Pump Units
- Ensure that service and repair requests are completed in a safe, prompt and professional manner
- Assist community manager in scheduling system outages for repairs, contracted services and major improvement projects
- Assist building engineers with maintaining routine & critical parts inventory.
- Ensure all company-owned tools & equipment is in good working condition.
- Support technicians with maintenance emergencies (24/7).
- Assist and provide Service Technicians with technical support.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Entry level position for central plant operations with some experience in plumbing and electrical systems
- EMS/BAS experience preferred
- Ability to work with a team as well as work independently and professionally
- Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills
- Adhere all to safe work practices
- Basic computer skills
- Able to work on-call and when needed, extended hours (including after hours and weekends)
- Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Must have own hand tools
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
