POSITION DEFINITION
The Engineering Design Center of Golden State Water Company (GSWC) is responsible for the design of all water supply and water distribution projects. These projects may include booster pump stations, wells, reservoirs, treatment systems, and specification writing. The Assistant Electrical Engineer position is part of a design team that is responsible for multiple design projects and is accountable to the Senior Electrical Engineer in responsible charge.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs utility research related to electrical components of capital improvement projects
• Prepares electrical design plans and specifications for new and existing water facilities using AutoCAD software
• Prepares and submits electrical service application documentation to applicable utility for new or modified electrical services
• Coordinates site visits to verify existing conditions
• Reviews construction submittals
• Represents GSWC’s electrical interests in project design and construction meetings
• Prepares preliminary load calculations, fault studies, and equipment sizing
• Develops and completes studies, preliminary design reports, and evaluations as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university required
• Knowledge and 1-2 years’ experience in electrical design for water infrastructure using computer-aided design software (e.g. AutoCAD) required
• Knowledge and 1-2 years’ experience in electrical fault/coordination software (ETAP) preferred
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• One to two years’ experience in an engineering design or related environment a plus; participates in continued learning and working towards obtaining the EIT certificate and eventually a Professional Engineering license

Technical Knowledge and Competency Requirements
Computer: Basic knowledge and skill in computer-aided design software (AutoCAD by Autodesk), electrical fault calculation software (ETAP or SKM) and familiar with web-based learning, Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and other applicable software
Communication: Good communication skills via telephone, e-mails, technical writing, meetings and presentation are essential
Engineering: Knowledge in engineering principles and design
Customer focus: Provide timely and quality products that meet the expectations of internal and external customers
Time Management: Ability to prioritize and plan based on projected workload to meet project schedule
May include but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, reaching, stooping and crouching, sitting, typing, walking, reading, writing, color determination, speaking and listening for extended periods of time.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The compensation range provided is in compliance with state specific laws. Multiple factors are used to determine the actual starting rate of pay for all of our positions, including specific skills, years of experience, education, certification(s), and other job related factors.
