This is an 8.0 hour per day, 260 day per year Assistant Dispatcher position with benefits for the Transportation Department at the District Support Services Center.
Hours for this position are TBD.
Preferred Qualifications: VersaTrans routing software experience preferred. Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of transportation operations. Ability to perform job duties independently, read instructions, maps, and to determine District boundaries. Skill and abilities of effective organization, efficiency, accuracy and attention to detail.

JOB SUMMARY:
Assist in performing school bus dispatching functions to provide students with safe and efficient transportation to and from school and other activities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the dispatcher to develop and maintain current bus routes, stops and schedules for programs consistent with District policies and State requirements.
- Assist the dispatcher to develop and maintain current route maps for office and driver use.
- Monitor driver sign-on times; morning sub coverage; assign midday runs; assign buses and drivers for early dismissal routes.
- Assists with implementation of route and schedule changes, including communication with parents and school personnel, as required.
- Communicate positively and tactfully with drivers, principals and staff regarding discipline problems on buses.
- Assist the Transportation Coordinator with student management issues.
- Answer phones and monitor radio communication with drivers.
- Track and assign field trips to drivers; monitor field trip costs, communicate with customers regarding trips and provide cost estimates, and charter coverage for field trips.
- Schedule, organize and monitor work assignments.
- Develop and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations.
- Assist with daily dispatch coverage.
- Bus driving duties, when necessary.
- Comply with District Policies.
- Maintain consistent attendance at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
- Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Knowledge and ability to perform basic math, including calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percents, and/or ratios.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of transportation operations.
- Ability to perform job duties independently, read instructions, maps, and to determine District boundaries.
- Skill and abilities of effective organization and efficiency.
- Skill and abilities of accuracy and attention to detail.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license, with acceptable driving record.
- CDL license and bus driver certification, or ability to obtain prior to end of 60-day probationary period.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- Previous experience as a school bus driver.
