The Assistant Director of Student Accounts (ADSA) reports to the Vice President of Finance and plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the Student Accounts Receivable system and related interfaces. The ADSA collaborates with third-party vendors to support billing and payment systems, ensuring efficient fee assessment, detail code coordination, payment plans, and bill processing for all college academic programs. This position involves handling various financial transactions related to student accounts, including credits, debits, anticipated financial aid, and loan disbursements.
Essential Functions:
Billing and Payment Processing:
- Manage all charges to student accounts.
- Assist students and families with payment inquiries.
Payment Plan Oversight:
- Post and update payment plan payments in our student information system
Student Collections:
- Oversee inactive student collections procedures, including in-house payment plans, demand letters, and monitoring accounts assigned to agencies.
- Process payments collected from agencies.
Financial Support and Aid:
- Address questions related to financial planning, aid eligibility, and students’ financial obligations.
- Collaborate with Financial Aid and Registrar offices.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Exercise sound judgment and sensitivity when interacting with students, parents, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Assist the Accounting office with tasks such as financial aid refunds, 1098T tax forms, and student health insurance waivers.
- Serve as a backup for team members in the accounting office.
- Participate in college-level committees as appropriate.
- Engage in Student Orientation and Registration activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in accounting or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with Anthology and Touchnet is a plus.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and understanding of Federal, State, and Local Governmental reporting requirements.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with financial aid and student accounting (preferably in higher education).
- Ability to communicate effectively with various units within the Finance Office and the College community.
- Willingness to listen and address issues proactively.
- Comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Demonstrated flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and initiative.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Advanced strategic thinking skills and ability to problem-solve thoughtfully.
- Self-starter with internal motivation, capable of working independently or as part of a team.
