Overview:
Title: Assistant Director of Residential Life
Reports To: Program Director
Location: Marion Hall- 337 East 17th Street NYC
Hours: 40 Hours/Week (Requires Flexibility for some Evenings/Weekends ) (Position is ONSITE)
Salary Range: 68K-75K Annually based on relevant experience and education
Job Summary:The Assistant Director of Residential Life is directly responsible for the daily programmatic functioning of a hard-to-place Group Residence for female adolescent participants. The Assistant Director of Residential Life will lead and manage a team of Youth Development Counselors and Residential Life Supervisors to create and maintain a trauma-informed environment utilizing the principles and practices of the Sanctuary Model and Youth and Family Development strategies.
Major Duties:
• Responsible for the day-to day functioning of the program, including oversight of daily schedules, staffing coverage, and program activities and development to foster a safe, secure, therapeutic environment for participants.
• Directly Supervise morning shift Reslife Supervisor and YDCs.
• Supervise a team of Youth Development Counselors from various levels: YDC, Senior YDC and Master YDC
• Work closely with the Senior Quality Coordinator to respond to Justice Center reports and protocols as well as following up on facility-wide and program protocols and incidents.
• Work to establish recommendations and feedback from Participant Satisfaction Surveys gets articulated to youth and action plans take hold. Mange the timeliness and completion of Participant Satisfaction Surveys and establish on-going feedback loops with participants regarding the results.
• Work alongside the Assistant Director of Social Services to create a cohesive building wide community, shared planning and collaboration in support of the agency's mission, values and strategic plan across residential life and social services staff members.
• Collaborate with Social Services, Heath Services, Kitchen, Facilities and on-site school teams.
• Oversee the Euphrasian program in the absence of the Director.
• Participate in program service plan reviews, treatment team meetings, team meetings and other meetings necessary for the optimal program success.
• Provide in-vivo support and supervision to the overnight team and supervisor. Including co-leading team meetings and working during overnight hours to assess and provide input and direction to the overnight team.
• On call/triage in response to crisis and scheduling on a scheduled basis.
• Supervise and provide on the job training for Residential Life Supervisor and Youth Development Counselors.
• Facilitate Therapeutic Crisis Intervention trainings and role-model the interventions of the model throughout the programs. Provide refresher and in-service trainings to promote optimal utilization of the tools and techniques of TCI.
• Monitor staff performance and work with HR to address any performance matters.
• Monitor and promote a learning and development framework for YDC and RLS, assurance staff attend all required and recommended trainings. In addition work to mitigate "no shows" at trainings and work on a plan to promise staff attendance to workshops that will optimize their success in the program.
• Manage purchase of service / contractors agreements for youth-based services and monitoring progress / impact / success.
• Respond to oversight and funding agency requests and manage relations in a positive and collaborative way (ACS, OCFS, etc.).
• Assist with programmatic events and cities building activities and special events.
• Lead the implementation of the Sanctuary Model of trauma-informed practice within the department/program.
• Encourage and advance the use of the Sanctuary Model tools: safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flag reviews, treatment planning conferences (or similar), and self-care in the department/program to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
• Promote and model the seven Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
• Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.
• Utilize Sanctuary Model principals in the supervisory practice.
• Oversee Incident and AWOL Reports with the help of the Administrative Assistant.
• Perform other duties as assigned or necessary to attend to program needs and the success of Euphrasian Diagnostic Center.
Qualifications:
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of Supervisory experience within child welfare / residential setting required. Must have 5 years working with adolescent youth:
• Valid Driver’s License required with the ability to drive agency vehicles.
• Proven client sensibility and ability to communicate with staff on all levels.
• Demonstrated competence in verbal, written, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
• Capability to transition easily between working independently with a high degree of self-initiative and contributing as part of a team.
• Participate in creating a safe and therapeutic milieu.
• Effective in conflict resolution and crisis intervention techniques and practices.
• Must be able to successfully complete state mandated crisis intervention training, and perform physical restraint of a resident.
• Must be able to successfully complete state mandated medication administration training.
• Must be flexible to work during hours supervisees work (some evening, overnight and weekend and holiday hours).
