Overview:
The Assistant Director of Practice Experience is an administrative member of Touro College School of Pharmacy and reports to the Dean of Clinical and Professional Affairs. This administrative, faculty position is responsible for developing, managing, and assessing programs of experiential learning to support education, research and service based in the primarily in the Departments of Pharmacy Practice.
Responsibilities:- Responsible for coordinating practice experience courses and grade submission to the office of the registrar for the full complement of experiential program
- Works in a collaborative manner with the Administrative Manager of Experiential Education, the Assistant Director of Practice Experience, and departmental staff that support the Office of Practice Experience, and college faculty, preceptors, and affiliate organizations
- Support the Senior Director of Practice Experience on resolving experiential issues that arises
- Assumes active and creative lead in the overall experiential educational program curriculum -- Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs), Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), and Practice Experience Course Reflections/Grand Rounds
- Responsible for academic scholarship and service to the profession and promoting participation in internal and external affairs of the College regarding community engagement
- Expected to fully contribute to the College in the areas of teaching, service and scholarship.
- Provides leadership, and supports the strategic direction of the College of Pharmacy
- Provides oversight and mentoring for Preceptors
- Facilitates recruitment and retention of preceptors and experiential sites
- Develops and plans the IPPE and APPE curriculum, obtains approval through the Curriculum Committee, and implements the approved experiential curriculum
- Works with the Dean of Assessment to review outcomes data and refines the curriculum to address identified needs
- Provides orientation to students, coordinates student schedules, and oversees student and site evaluations
- Implements and maintains a continuous quality improvement program, ensuring high-quality preceptors and experiential sites and compliance with accreditation standards related to experiential education
- Develops and provides preceptor orientation, training and development that includes both live and web-based programs
- Provides input and guidance on issues relating to experiential education to faculty committees such as the Curriculum Committee and Assessment Subcommittee
- Represents the Touro College of Pharmacy to external stakeholders including, preceptors, state pharmacy organizations, and the New York State Board of Pharmacy
- Participates in college and community wellness events such as medication reviews, blood pressure screenings, and vaccination programs
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean or Dean of Clinical and Professional Affairs
Education/ Experience
- The applicant must have a PharmD degree ; Post-graduate training (residency or fellowship) and previous academic experience are preferred
- Prior experience as an Assistant Director of Practice Experience or similar work experience for at least 2 years is preferred
- Must be eligible for licensure or currently licensed as a pharmacist in the state of New York Certification in immunization preferred

- Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable working with students, faculty, staff and preceptors.
- The position requires a strong commitment to the professional development of pharmacy students and the advancement of the profession.
- The position requires the ability to supervise staff and work collegially.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and various Internet Browsers
