JOB DESCRIPTION:  Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, the Assistant Director will perform a variety of leadership, management, and administrative activities in the evaluation, planning, installation, configuration, administration, operation, maintenance, and repair of computing systems and server hardware on premises and in the NJPSA AWS environment, desktop/laptop computers, printers, and local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN). Supervise and manage NJPSA technology staff, provide assistance in preparing annual technology budgets, assist with technical equipment forecasting, and assist in managing current projects using the company project management system. Support NJPSA/FEA staff in solving a range of technical problems, identifying priorities, assessing security and performance issues, and taking appropriate corrective action for mitigating system issues. Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues. Write and revise system documentation. Identify security risks and exposures and take any necessary corrective actions. Serve as a liaison/nexus point to support and connect district IT directors. Provide leadership, training, and professional development to NJPSA/FEA staff and complete other related work as required. 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE:

●       Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field;

●       Five years of relevant IT management work and experience in the private sector or in a school district;

●       Experience in maintaining and managing server and network infrastructure;

●       Experience in Amazon AWS EC2, S3, and VPC;

●       Experience with project management systems such as Asana or similar;

●       Experience with Systems Administration at an advanced level;

●       Experience with association management systems and/or student information systems;

●       Experience with learning management systems;

●       Experience with Salesforce preferred but not required;

●       Experience with relational databases and management systems (RDBMS)

●       Knowledge of the needs of school district IT directors preferred but not required;

●       Knowledge of WordPress and content management;

●       Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, or other photo and video editing software;

●       Knowledge of information system processing concepts, theories, and capabilities;

●       Knowledge of various transfer and communications protocols;

●       Excellent written/verbal communication and human relations skills;

●       Highly organized and demonstrated ability to manage multiple short- and long-term projects;

●       Ability to work as a team member and team builder;

●       Ability to provide virtual and in-person support for NJPSA/FEA members, customers, and staff;

●       Demonstrated experience relevant to providing user training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

●       Work in close collaboration with the Director of Information Technology in providing leadership, direction, and guidance to staff and managing operational activities to achieve the department’s long- and short-range goals and business objectives;

●       Assist the Director of Information Technology in formulating and implementing policies, procedures, and standards. Implement and manage customer support and technical services support models that address and bring resolution to the technical needs of the organization;

●       Monitor, manage, maintain and administer the NJPSA server environment including on-premises servers and AWS virtual servers;

●       Administer and support various computer and network operating systems including, but not limited to, Macintosh, Windows, and Windows Server Operating Systems;

●       Provide essential customer service/support to NJPSA/FEA members and customers using Intercom chatbot system, phone-based support, and in-person support for professional development attendees;

●       Provide technical support for NJPSA staff virtually and in-person; 

●       Prepare and monitor a disaster recovery, including backups of servers;

●       Provide repair and upgrades for hardware, networks, and software;

●       Install, setup, and maintain appropriate software on servers;

●       Provide assistance in third-party software selection and implementation;

●       Research and evaluate new technologies to be used as enhancements or upgrades to existing server, network, and other IT infrastructure equipment;

●       Analyze and evaluate system or networking problems, as well as data communication related problems, and effectively implement solutions;

●       Maintain security policy and security operations;

●       Develop and maintain an accurate inventory of all technology equipment;

●       Supervise and train employees of the Information and Technology Department;

●       Prepare, maintain and keep updated IT procedures and documentation related to processes and platform operations;

●       Establish standards for the performance of staff within the unit and motivate assigned team members;

●       Work independently with little supervision and adapt to fast-paced changing environments;

●       Perform other duties as assigned. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The Assistant Director of Information Technology will provide services in the office, as well as when working remotely and to remote staff. Night and weekend activities will be  required occasionally.  Public speaking skills, group problem solving, leadership ability, interpersonal skills, the capacity to maintain a professional demeanor during periods of peak workflow, and perform efficiently within restricted time frames are critical factors for success in this position.
