About the Job
The Assistant Director of Institutional Events at Oberlin College is responsible for the oversight, planning, and execution of institutional events that fall under the Office of the President. The primary responsibilities include ensuring excellence and acting as a leader in the timely planning, full production and execution of institutional events.
The incumbent will report to the Assistant to the President and support the initiatives and goals of the Institution under the discretion of the Office of the President. This position’s primary responsibility is to embody excellence in the timely planning and full production of institutional events, provide leadership in coordinating events across campus, ensure institutional expectations are met, while engaging in cross-campus collaboration for events that fall under the purview of the Office of the President. Responsibilities will also include budget planning, marketing strategies, constituent relations, and stewardship of event guests.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience in program and event management, or related field.
- Organizational and proactive planning of recurring events.
- Problem-solving skills, creativity and ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills for interaction with the College’s most senior officers and prominent alumni, donors and friends.
- Strong customer service skills while working closely and collaboratively with high-level College offices, faculty members and students.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to set priorities, meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously, while managing competing priorities.
- Ability to work well with others, lead teams, sit on teams and follow instructions.
- Demonstrate maturity and ability to apply judgment, discretion, and initiative.
- Experience in writing copy and an understanding of the design and printing process.
- Computer expertise with Microsoft Office products and database management systems and basic accounting skills.
- Adherence to confidentiality and ability to read, understand and adhere to policies.
- Must be self-motivated and a strategic and proactive team player.
- Ability to work evening and weekend events; occasional travel to off-campus events may be required.
