Job Description
Summary:
Under direction of the Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Assistant Director Level 2, Data Manager is responsible for maintaining the efficient and accurate operation of the cardiac surgery registries and databases for the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensures compliance with New York State (NYS) Department of Health, adult Cardiac Surgery Report
- System (CSRS), the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery Database (STS ACSD), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons / American College of Cardiology Transcatheter Valvular Replacement and Repair Registry (STS/ACC TVT); reviews and submits all reportable cases to the above cardiac surgery registries according to their Data Submission Schedule
- Identifies cardiac surgery patients and inputs all required data points (per NYS and STS requirements) into the cardiac surgery registries; maintains exclusion report for NYS and reviews required documentation for NYS validation reports with the chief of cardiothoracic surgery, director of advanced practice and associate director prior to submission
- Ensures that all cardiac surgery cases that meet NYS DOH and STS criteria are entered into the registries within 30 days of patient discharge
- Ensures the consistency and quality of the data collection by performing ongoing data validation using multiple methods and approaches, as outlined for each cardiac surgery registry and the chief of cardiothoracic surgery
- Retrieves data/reports for the purposes of internal department review, infection prevention, performance improvement, patient safety and other quality assurance processes
- Provides standard/custom reports for internal department review, heart team meetings, clinical business unit meetings, and other meetings as requested
- Assists the chief of cardiothoracic surgery, director of advanced practice, associate director, and other staff members in projects assigned regarding registry and data elements
- Appropriately interacts with Medical Records, Information Technology and acts as liaison with registry software vendors
- Maintains the technical needs of the cardiac surgery registries and takes initiative to troubleshoot technical issues
- Oversees data mapping and ensures weekly compliance and accuracy of data download
- Reviews, corrects, and validates cardiac surgery registry reports with the associate director and chief of cardiothoracic surgery prior to submission to NYS and STS
- Leads activities related to the cardiac surgery registries during TJC verification site visit
Minimum Qualifications
1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in hospital administration,
health care administration, public health or a related discipline; or
2. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as described in “1” above,
and one (1) year of administrative experience; or
3. An equivalent combination of training, college education and experience in related fields.
