Assistant Director, Engineering - Workplace Benefits - Principal Financial Group

What You'll Do:

We’re looking for an Assistant Director of Engineering to join our Workplace Benefits Sales team. In this role, you’ll lead software engineering teams on one of our highest priority product families to foster a high performing culture. You will partner with business stakeholders, product managers, and technology peers to ensure the modernization of our quoting and onboarding capabilities are aligned with business need and technology strategy.

• Inspire Accountability and Excellence: Foster a culture of accountability by setting clear expectations and providing regular, constructive feedback. Act decisively on performance concerns, providing coaching to elevate or make necessary changes.
• Shape Workplace Benefits Technology Strategy and Vision: Work closely with product teams and other technology leaders to develop and communicate bold, forward-thinking strategies that inspire teams to deliver results. Paint the big picture, focusing on global thinking across teams and business units. Build resiliency in both systems and processes, ensuring stability and value in every delivery.
• Stay Ahead of Technology Trends: Evaluate emerging technology developments. Consult and communicate with business partners to understand business strategy and make recommendations on future technical trends/directions that will enable differentiating outcomes.
• Develop and Empower Talent: Build and mentor high-performing teams, recognizing and nurturing exceptional talent. Encourage growth mentalities and coach your teams to excel, ensuring individual and collective success. You’ll listen actively, communicate candidly, and always show respect for your team.

Who You Are:

• Bachelor's degree (preference in a computer science, technology, engineering or math-related field) or equivalent experience
• 8 or more years of related experience in an enterprise environment
• Excellent leadership, problem solving, analytical, time management, change management, delegation, and decision making skills
• Experience supporting engineers with business problems, solutioning architectural issues and planning by engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels
• Adaptable, flexible, innovative, influential, collaborative, and have the ability to learn from experiences and setbacks and make changes based on those experiences

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

• Experience in a technology leadership role, leading direct reports as well as leaders
• AWS
• Solutions architecture or engineering background
• Leading modernization efforts
• Experience developing and driving engineering strategies to align with organizational goals, ensuring scalable and innovative solutions

Salary Range Information:Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.Salary Range:$137000 - $185000 / yearTime Off Program:Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.Pension Eligible:YesAdditional Information:

Work Environments

This role offers an in-office and hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek) work arrangement in Des Moines, IA.
