We are seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant Controller to join our dynamic team in the Scientific industry. This is a permanent position that offers a unique opportunity to be a part of a fast-paced environment and contribute to our mission of advancing scientific knowledge. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company's financial activities, including accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and general ledger (GL). This role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
2. Supervise, direct, and review the work of the accounting staff (including, but not limited to, cash reconciliations, accounts receivable transactions, fixed asset activity, payroll, accounts payable transactions, debt activity, recording of revenue and expenses, etc.).
3. Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
4. Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
5. Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
6. Collaborate with the other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
7. Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
8. Respond to inquiries from the Director of Finance, Controller, and other finance and firm-wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
9. Work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
10. Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Qualifications:
1. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA or MBA preferred.
2. Minimum 5 years of experience in the Accounting field, preferably in the scientific industry.
3. Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
4. Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
5. High attention to detail and accuracy.
6. Ability to direct and supervise.
7. Proficiency in accounting software.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
9. Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
11. Proven experience with accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and general ledger (GL).
