Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is hiring an Assistant Controller to join our team. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the organization’s accounting operations, including the production of periodic financial reports, management of the month-end processes, maintenance of accounting records, and implementation and execution of comprehensive controls to mitigate risk. This role involves ensuring the accuracy of financial information, including maintaining a fully reconciled balance sheet.
Duties and Responsibilities:• Financial Reporting:
- Assist in preparing and ensuring the accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate closing of financial records at month-end and year-end.
- Prepare various financial reports and analyses as required by management.
- Manage a team of 2-3 to ensure timely month-end close and reporting.
• Accounting Operations:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions.
- Ensure all accounting transactions are processed accurately and promptly.
- Manage and monitor the organization’s accounting software and systems.
- Internal Controls and Compliance:
- Maintain and enforce internal control policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist with audits and implement audit recommendations
• Team Mangement:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of accounting personnel.
• Budgeting and Forcasting:
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
• Special Projects:
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as directed by senior management.
- Support the Controller with acquisition purchase accounting and integrations of acquired companies.
- Support the Controller and other financial executives in various other financial and operational projects, as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience in public accounting and corporate accounting is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and MS Office, especially Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
