Key Responsibilities:
As an Assistant Controller, you will assist the Vice President of Finance in preparing financial reports, audits, and statements. You will be responsible for costing, month-end reporting, analysis, budgetary controls, and forecasting.
General Accounting Functions:
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly.
- Maintain fixed asset and depreciation records.
- Participate actively in month-end closing, preparing journal entries for inventory adjustments, reserves analysis, reconciliations, and data preparation for monthly/quarterly reporting and PowerPoint presentations.
- Reconcile intercompany accounts for subsidiaries.
- Conduct regular cost-benefit analysis to evaluate investment opportunities and track CAPEX spend against budget.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
Budgets/Forecasting:
- Prepare monthly budget vs. actual statements.
- Collaborate with managers to analyze and present departmental performance.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes by analyzing historical data, identifying trends, and providing insights.
- Monitor performance against budget and forecast, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
Costing:
- Analyze manufacturing costs and variances to identify areas for process improvement.
- Develop and maintain financial cost reports to explain standard and gross margin analysis and variances to budget/prior year.
- Set, develop, and analyze standard costs, working with non-finance teams to ensure accuracy.
- Review costing for accuracy and conduct special costing projects.
- Perform annual cost roll and inventory revaluation.
Other Duties:
- Serve as backup for the Vice President of Finance and payroll.
- Prepare audit work papers and respond to auditors' questions.
- Address tax notices and work with external sales tax software.
- Monitor credit card processors and reconcile payments.
- Prepare analysis and reports for department heads.
- Participate in the implementation of current and future ERP systems.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; Associate degree required.
- Experience: At least five (5) years relevant industry experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Communication: Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally.
