Position Summary:
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for accounting quality control, continuous improvement plans, internal controls, audit support, budget, and financial reporting. The position will provide support for the Sr. Controller and other accounting team members as they manage the bank's accounting and financial activities. The position will provide support to the monthly close process, maintain standard operating procedures, maintain the general ledger, ensure the accuracy of financial records, and oversea the internal and external financial reporting framework. This position will provide technical accounting and financial reporting expertise including the implementation and maintenance of accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements.
Position Responsibilities:
Accounting
- Ensure a quality control program to support the accounting process and reporting.
- Ensure quality control of the monthly close process, regulatory reporting for Bank and Holding Company.
- Complete reconciliation of major accounts and review of reconciliations.
- Evaluate accounting processes for efficiency.
- Chart of accounts maintenance.
- Oversight of the financial reporting database.
- Ensure efficient and accurate financial reporting and external filings across the organization.
- Daily accounting support and research.
- Working with the credit department, ensure that assumptions meet the expectations of regulators and external auditors pertaining to CECL
- Work with tax advisor on deferred taxes and tax provisions
- Training and development plans for the team.
Administrative and Reporting
- Assist with audit and regulatory exam requests and are responsible for maintaining all reporting for the organization.
- FDICIA support on the development and maintenance of controls.
- Lead the coordination and preparation of annual financial statements and serve as the primary point of contact with the company's external auditors as well as regulators.
- Manage the budget process and related reporting of KPIs.
- Prepare, maintain and enhance internal documentation controls.
- Research new and existing accounting pronouncements for applicability to Bank & Holding Company.
- Maintain standard operating procedures and administrative controls.
- Assist with the investigation and corrective measures relating to general ledger account reconciliations.
- Monitors income and expense accounts and performs analysis to ensure financial accuracy.
- Coordinate with other departments on their reporting needs.
- Assist with the administration of the Prologue General Ledger system.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum of 5 years comparable work experience at a financial institution
- Possess excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong knowledge of Excel software, including formulas and pivot tables
- Strong understanding of GAAP rules and requirements
Preferred Education & Experience:
- 5 years of experience with accounting with a financial institution
- Knowledge of banking and accounting best practices
- Prologue accounting system experience preferred
- CPA Preferred or sitting for exam
Competencies:
- Understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles
- Willing to learn new ideas and concepts
- AI knowledge a plus
- Ability to make sound and timely decisions
- Ability to prioritize workload and multi-task under deadlines and strong attention to detail
Essential Job Functions:
Essential job functions include the employee occupying this position will frequently be required to organize and coordinate schedules; and communicate with internal and external customers. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 60 percent of the time; frequently operate a telephone, computer, printer, copier and fax machine; and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
