Our company is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Controller to join our team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our dynamic, fast-paced environment where innovation and strategic financial acumen are highly valued. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a hybrid model, combining the best of remote and in-office work. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, monthly reporting, journal entries, property accounting, and team management.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee the preparation of journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Utilize Yardi property management software for property accounting, ensuring accurate and timely financial information.
- Collaborate with the Controller to develop and implement financial policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other applicable regulations.
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process, providing insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Liaise with external auditors and manage the preparation of audit schedules and other requested documents.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and drive the implementation of solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Assist in ad-hoc financial projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the property management or real estate industry.
- Proficiency in Yardi property management software is a must.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a team, with a commitment to developing and empowering staff.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- High level of integrity and dependability, with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
