Position Overview:
The Real Estate Accounting Manager oversees the accounting operations for a portfolio of properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting principles. The manager is responsible for supervising a team of accountants, preparing financial statements, managing budgets, overseeing reconciliations, and utilizing MRI real estate software for all accounting tasks. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and in-depth knowledge of real estate accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements for assigned properties.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring all journal entries are completed and reconciliations are accurate.
- Prepare, review, and analyze property budgets, forecasts, and operating statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements in all accounting functions.
- Perform and oversee property-level reconciliations, including cash, bank, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger.
- Manage and review lease accounting, tenant billings, operating expense escalations, and CAM reconciliations.
- Utilize MRI software to enter and manage financial data, generate reports, and support accounting functions.
- Prepare and manage property tax filings, sales tax, and owner distributions.
- Review and approve accounts payable and accounts receivable batches, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate with property managers to ensure accurate and consistent reporting and adherence to company policies.
- Support annual audits and tax filings by providing required documentation and analysis.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure that sufficient funds are available for property expenses.
- Assist with the development and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
- Maintain and manage financial records, ensuring they are organized and compliant with internal and external audit requirements.
- Perform ad-hoc reporting and special projects as needed.
