As an Assistant Controller, you will lead a team of accounting managers, oversee the month-end closing and reporting processes, and collaborate with various business and operational teams to drive financial accuracy and strategic insights.
Duties of the Assistant Controller:
- Financial Reporting: Assist in preparing financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Internal Controls: Help establish and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making, such as evaluating investment opportunities, assessing profitability, and identifying areas for cost reduction.
- Audit Support: Collaborate with internal and external auditors to provide documentation, explanations, and assistance during audits of financial records.
- Month-end and Year-end Close: Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes, reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and analyzing financial data.
- Tax Compliance: Support tax compliance efforts by preparing tax returns, gathering required documentation, and staying updated on tax regulations.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and improve the accuracy of financial reporting.
- Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff, fostering their professional development and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and timely.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Undertake special projects or assignments as requested by senior management, which may involve financial analysis, system implementations, or other strategic initiatives.
- Communication: Effectively communicate financial information to stakeholders across the organization, translating complex concepts into understandable terms.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards, staying informed about changes that may impact the organization.
- ERP System Management: Utilize enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems effectively for financial reporting, data analysis, and process management.
- Risk Management: Assist in identifying and mitigating financial risks to the organization, such as currency exchange risk or interest rate risk.
Qualification Requirements of the Assistant Controller:
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Prior experience at a Big 4 accounting firm is highly valued.
- Technical accounting experience is highly valued.
- A minimum of 6 years of accounting experience. Healthcare industry experience (+)
- Must be a team player as you will be working cross-departmentally.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-performance teams effectively.
