We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Permanent Assistant Controller to join our thriving Engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role within our finance department, contributing to the overall success of the business. The Permanent Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, providing financial analysis and information to the management team, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing accounting principles and cost accounting, as well as a keen attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, cash forecasting, and revenue and expenditure variance analysis.
2. Prepare and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting.
3. Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
4. Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CEO; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
5. Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
6. Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the CEO and board of directors.
7. Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting. Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
8. Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
9. Work closely with manufacturing departments to understand and manage product costs and to develop costing models.
10. Develop and implement systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information for the company.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA preferred.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the engineering or manufacturing industry.
3. Strong knowledge of manufacturing accounting and cost accounting principles.
4. Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially in MS Excel.
5. Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.
6. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to create financial reports and conduct cost analyses.
7. Ability to synthesize large quantities of complex data into actionable information.
8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
9. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
11. Unquestionable personal integrity, excellent judgment, and the ability to make sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
12. Experience in auditing and compliance, budgeting, and forecasting.
13. Experience with financial reporting and general ledger structure.
