Job Title: Assistant Controller
Location: Elizabeth, NJ
Schedule: 5x/week onsite (8am-5pm)
Salary: $130k-$140k + bonus
Responsibilities include:
• Preparing the monthly consolidated financial statements and semi-annual USGAAP financials.
• Compiling and reviewing, audits, compilations, and tax returns
• Preparing, analyzing, and providing commentary on monthly, weekly, daily, and ad-hoc management reports
• Working with and managing relationships with related parties; will be the main point of contact
• Treasury functions included but not limited to numerous weekly ACHs, monthly ACH, wire transactions, positive pay management, reviewing daily transactions, oversight of credit card/petty cash/debit cards, and fuel cards as well managing multiple banking relationships
• Performing in-depth analysis and financial commentary of each division’s monthly financial statements in each division
• Ensuring all accounting practices are in compliance with legal guidelines and established accounting principles
• Ensuring compliance with industry specific requirements & regulations and preparation of reports for regulatory bodies and local jurisdictions
• Preparing and reviewing account reconciliations and investigating discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting and general ledger maintenance
• Preparing month-end close procedures and identifying solutions to shorten the month-end close
• Developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls; supporting business practices for both operations and accounting, as well as testing and overseeing implementation and assuring compliance and consistency across all divisions
• Ensuring the integrity of accounting information by reviewing and verifying transactions and ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all our accounting tasks
• Providing leadership and support for billing and operations shared service center
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
• Previous experience as an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager
• 1-2 years of public accounting experience as well as
• 7+ years’ experience in public and private
This candidate must also have:
• Excellent Word and Excel skills (Excel proficient, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables)
• Technical expertise and knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures and US GAAP
• Experience with USGAAP Financial Statement audits
• Thorough knowledge and experience with intercompany transactions and consolidations; as well as related party transactions
• Thorough knowledge of revenue recognition accounting principles processes, and procedures
• Sage Intacct accounting system experience
• Highly detail-oriented skill set, ability to process large amounts of data and identify patterns based on their analysis, team-oriented, excellent communicator to staff and Controller, excellent at teaching and explaining concepts to others
• Proven record and passion for continuous improvement mindset
• Experience transitioning and migrating from one accounting system to another accounting system and integrating with other systems
• Business acumen, business judgement, and a dynamic ability to take on new complex transactions and provide practical expedients and solutions
• Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and meet reporting deadlines.
• Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with a range of individuals and function as a team player
• Knowledge of the trucking industry is a plus
• Knowledge of CCH Workpaper Manager is a plus
• CPA or other financial certification is a plus
