Assistant Controller
SUMMARY
Is responsible for managing the internal financial reporting and corporate accounting processes, including managing the preparation of consolidated financial statements, monthly reconciliations, internal reporting packages and various other financial reporting schedules on a timely basis; is also responsible for the implementation of new accounting pronouncements and other special projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists in the timely and accurate reporting of consolidated financial results, which include balance sheet variance analysis, P&L analysis, and comparisons to current and previous forecast/plans.
Assists in the annual corporate planning process, including annual budgets/forecasts.
Assists with various corporate audits.
Performs balance sheet reconciliations and analyses.
Researches and implements new accounting pronouncements.
Assists with cash forecasting and investing.
Assesses current practices and procedures and makes recommendations for improvements.
Performs ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
Assists in monthly close cycle by preparing and entering journal entries, preparing account analysis and review, and account reconciliations.
Represents the company to public and employees in a positive and professional manner.
Understands and follows the company’s policies and procedures.
Attends meetings as directed and is responsible for acting on supervisory /management directives in a timely manner.
Provides example of consistency and dependability in execution of duties and responsibilities.
Ensures employees’ compliance with established security and safety procedures and company policies and practices.
Acts as liaison between employees and corporation.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages and supervises 2-4 employees in the Accounting Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supervises Accounts Payable/Receivable personnel with training, reviewing and assisting with AP/AR transactions. Supervises Bookkeeper personnel, including training, review and assisting with bookkeeping functions.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, education, experience, and/or ability required.
Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Certified Public Accountant.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Accounting software; Database software; Microsoft Excel proficiency; and Word Processing software; sales tax reporting software
