Position Overview
Or client is seeking a full-time Assistant Controller to join their team. The Assistant Controller is tasked with overseeing financial reporting and analysis for affiliated entities. This role includes managing the preparation and review of financial statements, assisting in forecasting and budgeting, supervising accounting staff, and ensuring compliance with tax and audit requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile, review, and analyze monthly financial statements for individual entities and consolidated group reporting.
- Assist in developing and updating annual budgets and rolling forecasts for multiple companies.
- Supervise accounting functions, including payroll, payables, receivables, purchasing, billing, and disbursements.
- Provide timely financial reports and insights to the CFO and other stakeholders.
- Perform daily reconciliations for cash and investment accounts.
- Approve payments and monitor the accounts payable process weekly.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of sales tax returns to meet state deadlines.
- Ensure payroll compliance, including filing all required tax forms on time.
- Manage external audits and reviews, including preparing work papers and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Prepare supporting documents for annual tax filings and ensure their accuracy.
- Ensure adequate insurance coverage for all group entities and oversee any related audits.
Qualifications
Required:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential with prior audit experience.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including financial analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in both public accounting and the construction industry.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
