Job Summary
The Assistant Controller will manage the Accounting team in the performance of their job duties and assisting the Controller in generating monthly and annual financial statements, protecting the company’s assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures, preparing annual budgets, and forecasted financial statements, and ensuring compliance with GAAP standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Mentors, trains and develops direct reports to build an exceptional team.
- Ensure that assigned functional areas are staffed with qualified personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities of the company.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the Accounting department.
- Oversees and manages the performance and output of a team of Staff Accountants.
- Review monthly journal entries.
- Review monthly and year-end Balance Sheet account reconciliations.
- Managing all aspects of the General Ledger, to include chart of account maintenance, balancing, and transactional verification.
- Generate and update the monthly financial models which drives the financial statement process.
- Lead the Accounting team to provide documentation and support for the year-end independent financial audit.
- Lead the Accounting team to provide documentation and support for the year-tax returns.
- Lead the Accounting team to provide documentation and support for the year-end bank audit.
- Create Ad-hoc reports based upon system results.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), rules, regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Possess a high level of integrity and judgment with sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail with strong documentation skills.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA a plus.
- A valid CPA license is preferred.
- Proven experience as a manager in the same or similar role with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in management.
- 5+ years of finance or accounting experience.
Computer or Software Requirements
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Outlook and Word.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel at an advanced level.
- Knowledge of NetSuite is a must.
