About the Job
The Waco Filters Assistant Controller will report to the Director of Finance and will be based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Assistant Controller is a strategic leader entrusted with coordinating the Accounting and Finance functions. They play a pivotal role in Waco Filters’ success by contributing exceptional leadership and professional development to the Accounting & Finance teams. The Assistant Controller will have a strong understanding of process and cost management, compliance and revenue recognition standards, execution of the monthly close process, general accounting best practices, effective strategies for implementing changes, superior leadership methods, and the Global Filter product portfolio.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated quick learner, highly organized and focused, with sufficient Accounting & Finance expertise and a strong bias for action. The candidate will possess a customer-centric mindset, financial control skills, sound communication skills, analytical skills, & the ability to adapt positively to changing business demands through problem solving. The Assistant Controller must also effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization and be comfortable presenting and utilizing video and/or phone conferencing tools.
Responsibilities:- Management of accounting operations including credit, collections, billing, payables, cash disbursements, fixed assets, and general ledger entries
- Responsible for monthly closing procedures in local ERP system and global reporting system, including reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
- Respond to group and corporate requests for information in a timely manner
- Assist in the development of budgets and forecasts
- Responsible for accurate reporting of cost, including identification of variances related to purchased/received goods, overheads and operating costs
- Determine root causes and make recommendations for improvements
- Involved in the cycle count and physical inventory processes with the operations team
- Maintain Fixed Asset Ledgers
- Assist in the completion of certain governmental reporting (income tax, property tax, sales/use tax) as necessary
- Safeguard assets and ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by maintaining a sound internal control environment while simultaneously driving efficiency throughout the organization
- Ensure adherence with FG policies and procedures, along with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Demonstrate trust, bias for action, and entrepreneurship in daily activities and when communicating with other associates and departments
- Guides the accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) geared towards driving operational efficiencies
- Ensures the accounting team is adhering to established standards, identifies gaps, and establishes countermeasures to close those gaps
- Develops and implements best practices in various key accounting practices
- Leads and supports training of team, including through our continuous education program, Global University
- Contributes to building a high-performance team that sets the standard for accountability through team development, performance management, and staffing
- Consistently available to staff; ensures work responsibilities are covered when not available
- Partners with internal teams to support projects associated with new or existing initiatives
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

- Must possess strong problem-solving skills to lead resolution efforts focused on creating an exceptional quality for our customers
- Knowledge on GAAP is required; knowledge of Cost Accounting Principles is preferred
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter, take initiative to provide solutions in the absence of perfect data
- Must be able to adapt and work effectively with a variety of customers and changing situations
- Possess excellent organizational skills with very effective attention to detail
- Robust time management skills are essential
- Skilled at working within deadlines and prioritizing multiple projects with minimal supervision to meet changing business needs
- Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
- Must be committed to utilizing all available resources while striving for continuous improvement, both professionally and for business success
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office; specifically, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
- Particularly strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Working knowledge of teleconference tools
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required; or in absence of degree, eight (8) years of experience in accounting and/or finance related role is required
- Five (5) years of accounting and/or finance experience in a high-volume production manufacturing or distribution environment is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, ERP Systems, and various analytical tools is required
- Ideal candidate will possess public company or public accounting experience
- Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with all levels of the organization is required
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with sound organizational skills
- Willingness to work side-by-side with all levels of the team
