Responsibilities
**Position Summary:**
This position serves to provide quality assurance and security for Bursar’s Office daily operations including compliance with applicable government regulations and works closely with Financial Aid Offices, Registrar’s Offices, College Advising, Residential Life, Dining Services, UHS, Dean of Students and other University departments. Serves as the principal back-up to the Associate Bursar.
**Responsibilities:**
Manage the cashiering operations for the River Campus Bursar’s Office including departmental deposits, reimbursements and cash advances to staff. Respond to inquiries from departments regarding deposits. Research and resolve errors/discrepancies identified in the monthly bank reconciliation. Make recommendations for changes to procedures and enhancements to UR Financial Banking (URFB), working closely with Central Finance and IT staff.
Supervise six or more Student Account Representatives and student employees. Ensure documentation of all related procedures and train staff. Approve payroll and create weekly schedule to assign tasks. Assist Student Account Representatives with routine questions and account resolution on a daily basis. Provide training to staff as directed by the Associate Bursar. Demonstrate functional skill in understanding relevant Student Information Systems including UR Student (Workday), and PowerFAIDS. Recommend and document procedures for office operations. Provide back-up to Student Account Representatives during peak periods of account inquiries and during absences due to vacation or illness.
Perform daily review and approval of student account refunds to ensure refunds issued accurately reflect amounts owed to students, parents, or sponsors. Run daily refund settlement. Monitor refunds of Title IV funds to ensure timely processing in accordance with federal regulations. Process and report on taxable refunds. Manage escheatment of refunds as required.
Ensure accurate, professional and timely responses to all email inquiries to the Bursar’s Office from students, families and staff. May distribute email inquiries to appropriate Bursar staff or University departments for response as needed. Provide clear, helpful, concise and professional communication to ensure excellent customer service.
Review employee tuition benefit reconciliation, apply employee benefits for special populations including flat-rate tuition, Naval ROTC and EMBA under Policy 305. Receive miscellaneous charges from departments; distribute for processing. Serve as liaison to Minority Student Affairs for students in the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). Manage billing to Barnes and Noble for book grants, consortium agreements and payment holds. Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications:**
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting and 3 years of related experience in a customer service environment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience with 2 years of supervisory experience; or a combination of education and experience. Experience with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting systems preferred.
Excellent communication and organizational skills and strong attention to detail required. Must have strong work ethic with high integrity. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team structured environment. This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends may be required and especially during high peak student traffic such as registration and start of term.
