Assistant Baseball Coach

The region is widely known as an outdoor recreational paradise for campers, boaters, cyclists, climbers, cavers and hikers, all this while being conveniently located within two hours of Atlanta, Nashville and Knoxville.
Opportunity:
We are currently seeking an experienced baseball coach who will be responsible to the Head Baseball Coach, as well as to the Director of Athletics for assisting with the management and development of the intercollegiate baseball program, including:
Discipleship
- Discipleship of players in the program to facilitate spiritual growth.
- Teaching and modeling the value of Christian competition.
- Monitoring academic performance of student athletes and partnering with Student Development for discipleship, development and retention of student athletes.
- Run all facets of the JV program, including but not limited to: preparation of detailed and goal oriented practice plans, coaching/instruction, scheduling, recruiting, mentoring and team building.
Recruiting
- Assist with recruiting and retaining quality student athletes who understand and embrace Covenant College's mission and vision.
- Find student athletes that are equipped with the ability to achieve academic and athletic success.
- Working in conjunction with the Head Baseball Coach to fill a roster of 48 student athletes.
- Assist with all facets of preparing for and running elite & exposure camps.
Excellence
- Assist with regularly fielding a highly competitive team within the conference.
- On-field coaching and instruction, preferably about to throw batting practice
- Opponent scouting.
- Handling and updating the social media accounts for the baseball program.
Service
- Contributing and caring for the development and growth of the athletic department as a whole in tangible ways.
- Creating service and mission opportunities for student-athletes to invest in the community.
Administrative Effectiveness
- Effective stewardship of resources in the program.
- Approaching every facet of this position with a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
- Responsible for an administrative role within the Athletic Department. This position will be assigned by the Director of Athletics at the beginning of each academic year, once all primary staff positions have been determined. Examples of possible roles include, but are not limited to game day management, intramurals, sports information, sports ministry, or student employee oversight.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
- Experience in coaching baseball, preferably at the collegiate level.
- A commitment to adhering to all policies, rules, and regulations of Covenant College, the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), and the NCAA.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other administrators, coaches, students and faculty members.
- Good written and oral communication skills.

- A strong understanding of and commitment to Scripture, the Westminster Standards, the doctrinal standards of the PCA and the mission of Covenant College as a Christian liberal arts college.
- Must be able to assent to Covenant College's Staff Commitments.
Physical Work Environment:
- This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily around campus athletic facilities as well as in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other job-related technology.
- There is a mix of standing, sitting and baseball related physical activity, for this particular role.
- Classified as medium, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 30 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.
- Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. For coaches, days and hours of work are primarily dictated by the necessities of the sport and the needs of the athletic department and will occasionally require working evenings and weekends.
- Travel will be required for games, practices, training and professional development.
