Summary:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides assistance to the Head Athletic Trainer and, as assigned, will share in the responsibility for managing and developing all aspects of a collegiate training room and serve as a training resource for all Covenant College student athletes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Discipleship of direct reports and student athletes under the care of the training room staff.
- Supervision and development of interns and work study students assigned to the training room staff.
- Assistance in recruiting and retention of student athletes through the pursuit of excellence in athletic training.
- Responsibility for the care, prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student athletes' athletic injuries, as well as record keeping, administrative duties and operation, maintenance, organization, and professional appearance of the athletic training room and equipment.
- Provide medical coverage for teams during practices and home events and selected away games.
- Coordinate medical communication between the student-athletes, coaches, on-campus health services office, and physicians.
- Coordinate the collection, input, organization, and maintenance of the student-athlete's medical records, including determining medical clearance for participation.
- Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
- Contributing to, and caring for, the development and growth of the athletic department as a whole.
- Comply with the NATABOC Standards of Professional Practice, and NATA Code of Ethics.
- Assist in the partnership with theUT-Chattanooga Athletic Training program to provide qualified interns each year.
- Potential exists for teaching health and fitness related course(s) for qualified candidates.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Director.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree, with athletic training certification.
- NATABOC certification, Licensure in the State of Georgia; CPR/AED certification.
- A commitment to adhering to all policies, rules, and regulations of Covenant College, the Collegiate Conference of the South, and the NCAA.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other administrators, coaches, students and faculty members.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Provide medical care under the input and supervision of the team physician.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a closely related field.
- Collegiate athletic training experience.
- First-Aid/CPR certification
- Understanding of NCAA regulations, as they relate to sports medicine.

Physical Work Environment:
- This role is expected to be performed primarily on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for, and operates primarily in a professional athletic training and office environment, using standard office equipment and other job-specific technology and equipment.
- There is a mix of standing and sitting for this role with portions of many workdays involved with indoor and outdoor activity.
- Classified as light, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 10 lbs.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.
- Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
- Occasional travel may be required for this position, primarily for athletic training related activities and professional advancement.
