The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) is seeking board-certified or board-eligible pediatricians to fill three full-time positions in the Department of Pediatrics’ Hospitalist Division.
Join our dynamic and collegial team where the position includes exclusively academic teams for inpatient pediatric care on our general and intermediate level units, newborn nursery, and the pediatric sedation team. Our team is committed to providing evidence based patient and family centered care while teaching medical students, pediatric (https://peoria.medicine.uic.edu/departments/pediatrics/residency/), medicine-pediatric, emergency medicine and family medicine residents, and fellows from our accredited Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellowship. Academic time is protected and allows focus on teaching, curricular development, quality improvement, safety initiatives, mentorship, simulation-based education and innovation. We collaborate with our medical and surgical subspecialties and serve as the primary admitting service for most medical specialties while providing consulting and co-management roles for our surgical colleagues.
Clinical activities of the faculty are primarily concentrated at Children’s Hospital of Illinois, which is the primary pediatric teaching facility for UICOMP and is a 132-bed facility that offers over 50 pediatric programs and services. These programs represent over 100 pediatric sub-specialists in 24 different disciplines, including the largest pediatric surgery program in Illinois. Children’s Hospital of Illinois is the only full-service tertiary hospital for children in downstate Illinois with a pediatric and adult congenital heart disease program, Illinois Perinatal Center, a Quaternary Care neonatal intensive care unit and is designated as a Level I trauma center. We collaborate routinely with Jump Simulation for education, teaching, research and innovation, https://www.jumpsimulation.org .
Position Summary
This Pediatric Hospitalist will primarily provide inpatient services at the Children's Hospital of Illinois on the general and intermediate pediatric units. Other clinical work may also include the newborn nursery and pediatric sedation service. They will be responsible for teaching medical students and residents. Scholarly work activity (research, quality improvement, and advocacy) is expected but tailored to the faculty member's interests
Duties & Responsibilities
• Provide academic inpatient hospitalist services for patients at UICOMP’s main clinical partner, OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois, a 132-bed, full-service hospital.
• Participate in undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs of the Department.
• Organize and conduct research or scholarly programs in pediatric hospital medicine.
• Perform other duties of a University faculty member including committee assignments, curriculum development, student counseling, and administration.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• MD/DO degree
• Eligible for licensure in Illinois.
• Board certified in Pediatrics
• 3 years pediatric residency
