We are seeking an Assistant Actuary to join our annuity team, located in Galveston, TX, at our corporate headquarters. As an Assistant Actuary, your responsibilities will include improving the processes used to perform and communicate complex actuarial analyses such as actuarial exhibits, financial planning, modeling, other data analyses and tasks as assigned, and should easily be able to train less experienced actuarial analysts. This position supports the annuity segment in ensuring profitability, growth and the financial strength of the business.
As an Assistant Actuary with American National, you will be able to participate in our Actuarial Exam Program, that is designed to help your achieve your designation goals.
What You'll Do:
- Prepare and presents summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to management, other American National departments, consultants, and reinsurers.
- Complete processes to perform and document actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
- Assist and trains less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses
- Prepare for and progresses in the SOA examinations through on-the-job and home study
- Supervise actuarial students with assigned projects
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required
- 5 or more SOA exams completed.
- 5 or more years of actuarial experience
- Advanced knowledge of Excel
- Basic knowledge of programming languages (R, Python, etc.)
