Assistant Accounting Manager
The Assistant Accounting Manager supports the Accounting Manager in all aspects of client accounting including but not limited to all day-to-day accounting functions, payroll, maintenance of general ledger, preparation of financial statements, compiling and monitoring of budgets, managing cash and investments, and assists in maintaining the overall financial health of multiple assigned clients.
This position is housed in the Finance and Accounting Department and reports to the Director of Finance and Accounting while working closely with the Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting and Accounting Manager. The position requires strong accounting skills and experience and must work well under pressure to meet deadlines and follow through on assignments. The position assists with training and development of accounting staff specific to their position while continuing their own professional development.

Major Responsibilities:
Client Services Management
- Maintains the general ledger and accounting records for each assigned client
- Oversees the monthly accounts payable process
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, as needed
- Prepares financial reports for the Board of Directors
- Assists with the management of cash and investments and financial health
- Coordinates with Accounting Manager on revenue management, including billings for services and fees and budget comparisons
- Coordinates with Accounting Manager on expense management, including analysis of budget to actual and explaining variances
- Assists in managing client debt portfolio and reporting
- Prepares audit supporting work papers and coordinates with independent auditors or completes audit exemption as applicable
- Assists in the preparation of budget and long-range financial projections
- Processes client payroll
- Prepares year-end tax reporting, including W-2's
- Prepares compliance reporting.
- Assists with client management
Client Relations
- Coordinates with client on finance and accounting related transactions
- May serve as "Acting Accounting Manager" for specified clients
Delegates and assigns work to Accounting Staff
- Coaches and trains Accounting Staff
- Provides Leadership and general guidance and direction as needed
- Review work product for accuracy and thoroughness and provides appropriate feedback
- Oversees and coordinates client service functions of Accountants of assigned clients
Company Relations
- Works closely with the Accounting Manager(s) to handle issues and transactions related to finance and accounting
- Works closely with District Managers and Administrators in the payables and billings processes and other transactions related to finance and accounting
Other Duties as Assigned
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Supervised by: Director of Finance and Accounting and Assistant Director of Finance and Accounting.
Oversees: Work product of Accounting staff.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance required or three (3) years progressively responsible hands-on experience in general business, governmental accounting, community/homeowner association administration, or paralegal/legal assistance is required
- Strong knowledge of core government finance practices including budgeting, fund accounting, and governmental financial reporting is preferred
- Understanding of the operations of special districts (Title 32 Governmental Agencies), government bidding, and Title 32 compliance regulations is preferred
- Working knowledge of city and state government processes as related to special districts
- Strong knowledge of debt issuance procedures and practices
- Strong knowledge of state and local government statutes, rules, ethics, and similar recommended practices governing finance employees and operations
- Strong knowledge in developing, evaluating, maintaining, and monitoring an effective internal control environment
- Desirable experience in the professional development of staff, their work effectiveness and team efficiency
