JOB SUMMARY
This Asset Protection Specialist will assist with all food and workplace safety and loss prevention activities in our independent member retail stores to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and procedures. The Asset Protection Specialist will be accountable for maintaining the standards for safe food and safe work environments for all customers, team members and partners in the store.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct frequent onsite food safety & safety reviews of assigned stores.
- Review results with owners and/or key store personnel and provide support to correct deficient conditions.
- Prepare routine and timely inspection and travel reports.
- Monitor and assist store owners/managers on food safety and safety compliance with local, state and federal standards, laws and regulations.
- Review third party chemical and pest control partners for compliance to contracts. Build relationships with third parties to benefit company.
- Possess knowledge of chemicals & store equipment to demonstrate proper cleaning and sanitizing techniques and all safety requirements.
- Assist store response to regulatory inspection deficiencies including OSHA, Department of Health, and USDA.
- Develop and maintain active relationships with local, state and federal health and safety officials in all states of responsibility. Maintain channels of communication with state and local health regulators to provide for quick action to correct and prevent regulatory violations.
- Stay current on regulatory requirements for food safety and safety to provide necessary direction to store owners and risk management.
- Review all recall bulletins and assist stores to verify compliance.
- Participate in any staff meetings, store director and department meetings as applicable.
- Attend continuing education on government reporting requirements and underlying laws and regulations on behalf of the company.
- Develop and maintain monthly training and communication on food safety and safety topics for all members stores.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Degree in public health, environmental health, occupational safety & health, food science or related field preferred. Related work experience in retail, compliance, public health, safety or food safety.
CERTIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: State food regulations, HACCP and food science required. Good working knowledge of cGMP's, GAP, and GFSI standards. CFSM (Certified Food Safety Manager) credential within 60 days of employment. Willing to work towards obtaining a CP_FS and/or CSM (Certified Professional-Food Safety and /or Certified Safety Manager) credentials.
Must be able to drive personal vehicle and maintain a valid license & insurance. Must be able to travel up to 50% of time on job.
SKILLS: Must be flexible to various working conditions with the ability to adapt quickly. Strong analytical skills required for data interpretation and analysis. Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills. Well organized, with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
ABILITY: Ability to read, interpret and enforce city ordinances, state and federal food safety & safety laws and regulations. Must be able to interface effectively with a wide variety of personnel. Ability to work with team members in a diplomatic manner and provide solutions to maintain compliance with regulations. Able to accept supervisory coaching related to performance, work habits and behavior. Has a passion for compliance and teaching others. This individual will need to have the utmost integrity while working with an array of different teams. This is a self-motivated position that requires heart, striving for continuous improvement in all facets of the job.
