JOB SUMMARY
The Asset Protection Specialist ensures food safety, workplace safety, and loss prevention at independent member retail stores, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. This role maintains safe environments for customers, team members, and partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct regular onsite food and safety reviews of assigned stores, identifying and correcting deficiencies.
- Prepare inspection and travel reports.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and safety regulations at local, state, and federal levels.
- Manage third-party chemical and pest control vendors, ensuring contract compliance and building relationships.
- Demonstrate proper cleaning, sanitizing, and safety procedures using store equipment and chemicals.
- Assist with regulatory inspection deficiencies (OSHA, Health Department, USDA).
- Develop relationships with health and safety officials for rapid response to regulatory issues.
- Stay updated on food safety and safety regulations, advising store owners and risk management.
- Monitor recall bulletins and verify store compliance.
- Participate in staff and departmental meetings.
- Attend training on government reporting requirements and regulations.
- Develop and distribute monthly food safety and safety training for member stores.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Education/Experience: Degree in public health, environmental health, occupational safety, food science, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience in retail, compliance, or food safety is required.
- Certifications/Requirements: Knowledge of state food regulations, HACCP, cGMP's, GAP, and GFSI standards. CFSM certification required within 60 days; willingness to pursue CP_FS and/or CSM certifications. Must have a valid driver's license, insurance, and be willing to travel up to 50%.
- Skills: Strong analytical, verbal, organizational, and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Ability: Read and enforce food safety and safety laws. Work diplomatically with various teams and provide solutions to maintain compliance. Self-motivated with a passion for compliance and continuous improvement. Ability to accept feedback and act with integrity.
