We're one global team driven by our common purpose to deliver a better world. Join us. **Job Description** **AECOM** is seeking a Area Manager (AM) to be based in in San Diego, CA. The Area Manager (AM) will play a crucial role in the construction of San Diego International Airport’s New Terminal One (NT1) Program in a fast-paced, hands-on position that requires strong problem-solving skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to thrive in a demanding environment. In general, the Area Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire commissioning and activation process of New Terminal 1 with a focus on the coordination of the Building’s Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection (MEPFP) systems with Design-Build contractors and field Inspectors’ teams, to deliver the program within schedule and within budget. This includes coordinating construction logistics issues, change management issues, schedule issues, technical issues, and various stakeholder issues. This role requires coordination not only with the Design-Build and Inspection teams, but also the various groups with interests in the area including airport operations, 3rd-party stakeholders, maintenance personnel, subcontractors, commissioning teams, activation teams, and subject matter experts. The candidate must be well experienced in Commissioning of all types of building systems as well as have strong technical knowledge in MEPFP systems, a diplomatic demeanor, and a proactive approach to problem solving. The AM will report to NT1 Terminal Project Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to: + Be familiar with scope and schedule for all projects occurring within the AM’s area of responsibility + Be responsible for overseeing the overall commissioning process with Authority’s Commissioning Agent and Design-builder’s Commissioning Manager + Coordinate activation of New Terminal Baggage Handling System (BHS) and Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBB) and related aircraft services (PC Air, 400Hz, and Potable Water) + Navigate Complex Challenges: Collaborate with Design-Build contractors and field inspectors to resolve complex technical, logistical, and scheduling issues + Drive Project Success: Work closely with various stakeholders, including airport operations, maintenance personnel, and third-party vendors to ensure the project stays on track and within budget + Lead from the Front: Take ownership of issues and proactively seek solutions and escalate issues to PM and PGM + Understand Validated Project Definition Document, Owner Design and Construction Standards, Project Performance Specifications, and the related plans and specifications issued by the Design Build Team. + In conjunction with Subject Matter Experts and Inspectors, identify scope elements that are not within standards (Project Definition Document, Design & Construction Standards, Performance Specifications), and alert Project Manager + Proactively look for logistics issues, quality issues, scope issues, and other issues that, if not resolved, will impede timely completion of the field work of the respective area + Participate in Change Management of the elements related to AM respective area. Provide recommendations to Project Manager related to merit of requested changes and follow-up with necessary change management documentation + Participate in schedule evaluation related to AM respective area. Provide recommendations to Project Manager related to schedule and validity of potential schedule and be knowledgeable about current ongoing progress + Attend weekly project meetings run by the individual Project Managers or Inspectors throughout the life of the program + Meet regularly with stakeholders (Operations, Tenants, etc.) to inform them of upcoming work and get input from them on potential impacts + Act as responsible party to ensure that all construction is in accordance with plans and specifications **Qualifications** Minimum Requirements: + BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education + A valid Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain eligibility under the Authority’s Authorized Drivers Program + Night and weekend work will be required Preferred Qualifications: + Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or equivalent experience + Minimum 7 years of experience in construction of complex building or large infrastructure projects + Proficient with engineering / architectural building systems and coordination among those systems + Demonstrable experience in field construction observation of building systems + Previous experience at a minimum of one operating airport + Able to work under pressure on high-profile complicated assignments + Must pass drug and alcohol screening, and driving record and background check **Additional Information** + Sponsorship is not authorized Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications.
