About the Job
The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of blacktop paving projects within a designated geographical area. This role requires a strong understanding of paving processes, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety and quality standards. This role is also an integral part of the bidding process from preparation and submittal to laydown methodology and through to execution.
Essential Functions: (other duties may be assigned)
- Research potential bid opportunities, review bids as required by the DOA, and track bid wins/losses.
- Develop and oversee comprehensive project plans, involving the creation of schedules to meet customer needs, coordinating resources, and providing guidance to project managers on their project plans, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Monitor schedules and timelines for HMA paving projects. This includes tracking weekly production plan reporting.
- Review project budgets and financial performance, ensuring adherence to cost estimates.
- Work with project team to develop and implement corrective action plans to improve underperforming operations and recognize and reinforce the teams’ efforts for operations that are exceeding budgets and goals.
- Perform onsite field measuring of work and prepare proposal of scope of work for project bids.
- Maintain open communication and positive business relationships with existing accounts and manage customer issues.
- Cultivate and sustain client relationships, engaging in regular meetings with customers to discuss upcoming projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Civil Engineering, or related field or an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management required. Significant and demonstrable experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 10-15 years of Construction experience required. 10 years of specific Heavy Highway Construction and project management experience preferred.
- Proven track record of successfully managing projects and demonstrated experience leading a team.
- A strong understanding of safety policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Functional knowledge of estimating/scheduling software is required. Experience in HHCS and Primavera is preferred.
- Knowledge of PennDOT and PTC specifications is required.
- Strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid Driver’s license and meets Driving Standards per NESL policy.
