Architectural Estimator | Methuen Construction Company, Inc.
Methuen Construction is seeking an Architectural Estimator to provide essential support to the Estimating department. This position reports to the Vice President of Preconstruction and is not responsible for the oversight of other teammates. This is a full-time, salaried-exempt position.
Your Role
-
Bid takeoff and select item pricing as assigned, mainly all specification sections other than general conditions (Division 1), site work (Division 2) and process/equipment (Divisions 11 and 13)

Create complete takeoffs and select estimates for Methuen Construction’s self-performed work, mainly concrete construction and general carpentry

Solicit and review all subcontractor and vendor quotes for the specifications assigned. Review and understand filed sub-bid scopes and ensure remaining unclaimed scope is accounted for in takeoffs

Collaborate with other teammates to clearly define scope of work and assemble accurate takeoff package for VP’s review and acceptance

Perform neat, orderly and accurate takeoffs and select pricing with little supervision and direction

Help assemble proposals and bid packages required by the procuring entity

Effectively communicate scope of work, risks, and potential value engineering options for each project
-
Interact with other teammates, subcontractors and vendors as needed

Create complete and fully functional Excel spreadsheets and Word documents to aid in position duties

Compile and maintain material cost and production rate database for use in estimating spreadsheets

Perform other related duties as assigned
Your Education and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred but not required
-
5+ years’ experience in the construction industry with a broad understanding of the company’s main self-performed trades, to include concrete construction and general carpentry
-
1+ years’ experience performing takeoff, pricing, and functions of an estimator
-
Additional consideration will be given to those applicants that can demonstrate experience estimating other divisions of a project or under contract delivery methods other than hard bid

Additional consideration will be given to those applicants that have experience estimating projects with filed sub-bids

Ability to learn how to utilize advanced estimating software such as HCSS (or industry equivalent), Planswift, AutoCAD, and ISQFT

Knowledge of estimating fundamentals and conceptual estimating techniques

Ability to think on your feet in high pressure situations

Highly organized with attention to detail

Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction

Maintain a positive image of the company with vendors, subs, clients and teammates
