The Mundelein Park & Recreation District is pleased to announce the new position of Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor. This position will oversee the highly successful learn-to-swim program hosted in the indoor pool and will work with recreation facilities team members to grow comprehensive fitness & exercise offerings. Summary
The Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor is responsible for the daily programming of the indoor aquatic facility and oversees the implementation of the group exercise and personal training programs and related programs for the Mundelein Health & Fitness Center. This position is also responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and supervising of all aquatic or fitness special events. The Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor ensures all areas of the indoor aquatic facility and Fitness Center operate in a safe and customer friendly manner, ensuring that the facility is clean and adheres to District standards. The Aquatics & Fitness Supervisor is also responsible for coordinating the District's learn-to-swim program and coordinating lifeguard personnel for pool parties. The Supervisor collaborates with the Recreation Facility Manager and additional staff to assist with membership promotion, retention and sales. The position requires a variety of hours, including nights, days, weekends, and holidays. Supervise all Fitness and Indoor Pool Staff.
Qualifications - Education, Experience and Training
B.A. or B.S. in Recreation Administration, physical education, exercise science or related field, or a combination of relevant experience is preferred. A minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field is required. Certification in StarGuard Elite Lifeguarding and Instructor Trainer is required within six months of employment. CPO/AFO certification is preferred. Candidate must also possess a valid Illinois class "D" driver's license. CPR, First Aid and AED Certification required and if not certified, must become certified within 90 days of employment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Promote, schedule, manage, and supervise the District's indoor pool and fitness center facilities, including aquatic programs, parties, and facility rentals.
- Plan, organize, implement, and oversee fitness and aquatics programs and services, including but not limited to group exercise classes, personal training, learn-to-swim program, rentals, and use by district partners.
- Manage the hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating of fitness attendants, Fitness Program instructors, Group Fitness Instructors, Personal trainers, IP Lifeguards, IP Swim Instructors, and IP Swim Lesson Coordinator.
- Develop, coordinate, promote, evaluate, market and supervise a comprehensive learn-to- swim program.
- Develop and implement enrichment classes suitable for Child Development programs.
- Maintain needed certifications for job requirements.
- Assist with preparing indoor aquatic lifeguarding staff to be in test-ready shape regarding lifesaving skills and emergency procedures.
- Keep accurate and complete records in compliance with accepted industry standards and requirements for an aquatic and/or fitness facility.
- Work with maintenance staff to ensure the proper maintenance and repair of the indoor aquatic and fitness facilities and amenities.
- Order supplies and chemicals, when directed. Maintain inventory according to manufacturer's recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to increase member and community engagement through programs, events, equipment, and partnerships.
- Make recommendations to the Recreation Facility Manager regarding equipment, facility, rules, memberships, programs, procedures, and supplies.
- Collaborate with the Recreation Facility Manager on memberships and promotional activities.
- Monitor aquatic and fitness operations daily and respond to any problems that may arise.
- Define personnel and staffing requirements, develop plans to recruit, hire, train, schedule and evaluate seasonal and part-time staff to include contract employment and volunteers for assigned recreational programs and facilities.
- Assist with outdoor aquatics training, oversight, and management of staff, when needed.
- Prepares seasonal brochure information and creates publicity materials in cooperation with the marketing department.
- Work with marketing staff on the creation of annual marketing plans for areas of responsibility. Ensure the timely marketing of programs and events from a strategic perspective, including production of flyers, brochures, press releases, social media posts, and other promotional materials.
- Prepare the annual budget for program areas, monitor revenue and expenses, make purchases, and provide recommendations to supervisor on rate and policy changes.
- Develop long-range recommendations for capital expenses.
- Order, purchase and coordinate assigned program supplies and equipment.
- Prepare monthly board report.
- Continuously seek ways to improve and deliver quality services to both external and internal customers.
- Makes recommendations for changes and improvements to programs, and facilities as required to meet the public demand.
- Pursue opportunities to innovate within assigned programs, facilities, events, and throughout the district.
- Deliver quality customer service both internally and externally.
- Quickly and diplomatically attend to questions, suggestions, and/or complaints received from the public and staff.
- Provide accurate information to patrons in person, via telephone, and electronically and be available to troubleshoot any issues, as needed.
- Adapt recreation programs to meet the needs of individuals in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Monitor records of monies received, participation figures, and expenditures within assigned responsibility areas.
- Participate in professional committees, conferences, workshops and classes to improve job knowledge and management skills.
- Work with community organizations, businesses, and other governmental bodies to promote, implement, and improve programs and services.
- Develop, schedule and implement an annual calendar of in-service training for indoor aquatics and fitness center staff. Ensure staff attendance. Produce and update training manuals for staff.
- Create and publish the monthly group exercise schedule.
- Train and practice with staff the medical emergency, evacuation and disaster plan so as to be prepared for any and all emergencies.
- Ensures staff schedules are prepared for areas of responsibility.
- Manage and directly supervise all payroll activities for the assigned areas.
- Hours will vary including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Additional hours may be necessary, depending on the season.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
