About the Job
FarrWest Specialty Vehicles (FSV) is an installer and custom outfitter for First Responder Vehicles such as police cars, fire trucks, and other emergency vehicles.
We are looking for a motivated, energetic, and dependable safe driver who is mechanically inclined and looking for on-the-job training in automotive 12v electrical installation. This position can promote an Apprentice/Porter position to an Install Tech 1.
Apprentice/Porter Responsibilities:
- Assist lead technicians with vehicles with a willingness to train to become an install technician.
- Learning automotive 12v electrical & other accessory installation.
- Assist in pulling parts for job orders and keeping parts organized by job.
- Receive, put away, and help manage parts and supplies.
- Check-in & out vehicles.
- Drive and handle vehicles responsibly to always ensure damage prevention and protection of company property.
- Wash and prepare vehicles for delivery to customers.
- Transport vehicles from dealers or to customer sites.
- Responsible for maintaining and cleaning the auto shop area.
- Travel off-site for various errands.
- Checking in packages and parts.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Install Tech Apprentice Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience as a car porter or similar.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Knowledge of basic car maintenance.
- Ability to learn and perform a wide range of allocated tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to take direction from Lead employees and Supervisors and follow instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand while working for hours at a time.
- Reliable attendance and promptness.
- Good work ethic and a desire to progress your career to the next level.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Be able to work on vehicles inside a shop environment for 8 hours a day and deal with warm or cool temperatures, tool noise, and moving parts.
- Must be able to lift, squat, kneel, stoop, bend, lay down, twist, climb, stand, and sit for extended periods to install equipment.
- Must be able to assemble small and large items like partitions, bumpers, prisoner cages, interior panels, fasteners, wires, loom, and cable ties using both hands.
- Good eyesight and color vision.
